The Asbestos Minefield!

Yes there are plenty of very impressive asbestos survey websites out there, most have popped up since the regulations changed in 2006 and again in 2012.  Many people have got themselves qualified to carry out asbestos surveys and present the information in a basic format and the only recommendation you get is "it's asbestos, manage it", which can still be confusing for those without much knowledge of the subject.

Some of these, we have found, will offer a cheap survey to get on site and then strongly recommend removal of low risk materials even though it is often unnecessary, an £80 survey can easily become a £3,000 hole!, always get a second opinion if you suspect this.

As I mentioned above, many surveys and reports will provide the basic information and assessments, to comply with their part of the regulations, I go further than that, after many years experience, I understand that domestic or commercial clients still need reassurance, helpful advice and guidance on how to proceed with their own particular needs, whether it's refurbishment of a newly purchased house or the 'catching up' with the  CoA regulations 2012 for small businesses.

I would also urge those who have terrified themselves by Google searches for asbestos to stop thinking it's always highly dangerous and believing the hype and scare tactics of those with a financial interest in your fears! Apart from causing significant anxiety, you may well be preyed upon by those who are prepared to use this fear to charge you much more than you should pay with unnecessary removal etc. Actually 95% of asbestos materials are either low risk or easily manageable, you just need to respect asbestos and treat it accordingly .
